Call for Presentation Proposals

Deadline:  October 1, 2011 11:59PM ET

The national conference this fall will include a number of student presentations (submission form) on issues relevant to graduate and professional schools.  We are requesting that each attending school submit at least one abstract of 250-500 words.  Your participation is critical to a successful conference. As listed below, the abstract can either feature something the Graduate-Professional Student Organization (GPSO ) does well (standard session) or a topic for collaboration.

Submit Now>>

Standard Session (45 minutes)

In these sessions, GPSOs will be asked to do a short presentation (no more than 30 minutes) and then take part in a round-table discussion with the presentation attendees.   Through the presentations and the ensuing discussions, schools can share their best practices and learn about the work of others, as well as make connections and potentially form partnerships for the improvement of graduate student life.

Collaboration Session (45 minutes)

The collaboration session should include a 10-minute overview of any area in which your GPSO would like to obtain ideas on how to improve.  During the remainder of the time (35 minutes), other member schools will be able to share best practices, brainstorm new ideas, develop potential solutions, and possibly work on collaborative programming.

The Board of Directors will select presentations from a variety of the topics. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

    * activities
    * advising and faculty/student relations
    * alumni relations
    * budget cuts and their mediation
    * community engagement
    * government relations
    * health/dental care
    * housing
    * lobbying the university administration
    * organizational continuity
    * professional development
    * stipend negotiations
    * unionization
    * websites and communication

The submitted abstracts, as well as the presentation files and the minutes taken at each discussion, will be compiled and made available to all NAGPS members (unless otherwise requested).  Proposals are due at 11:59 PM ET on Tuesday, October 1, 2011.
